Selene is built for evening light. The whole gown is worked in beading over patterned lace, and every line of it runs vertical, long channels of beads that catch the light and pull it down the body. The neckline is a soft V between wide beaded lace straps. Through the waist and hip the gown holds absolutely close, the beadwork dense enough to shimmer with any movement, then releases below the knee. The back is where it plays its hand: a low open scoop edged in beaded lace, a fine lacing at the waist, and a run of small buttons following the spine into the skirt. The train opens wide across the floor, sheer layers edged in a deep scalloped border of lace, with beads scattered to the hem. Under candlelight or the low light of a late banquet it does its best work: a silhouette in glitter, moving quietly.
