Bryony grows upward from the hem. A wide border of corded lace runs round the bottom of the skirt and out across the sweep of the train, dense with flowers, and above it the satin is left bare and smooth. At the waist the lace begins again. A single vine climbs from the hip and crosses the body on the diagonal, unmatched on the other side, the way something growing finds its own line. It thickens as it reaches the bodice, where floral appliqué spreads across illusion tulle from one shoulder to the other, and the tulle itself disappears against the skin so the flowers seem to sit on it. The neckline is a soft bateau with small cap sleeves. Behind, the same tulle carries the lace across the shoulder blades, closing with a long line of covered buttons that runs from the nape to the small of the back. Underneath it all is a plain satin sheath, close through the body and easy to walk in. It suits a hotel solemnisation as well as a garden one, and the sweep train follows without a bustle.
