Beatrice has sleeves, and they are the whole of its character. Fine tulle runs the full length of the arm to the wrist, patterned in lace appliqué that thins as it travels down so the forearm stays light, and finishes in a scalloped cuff. The neckline is a soft bateau in the same illusion tulle, carrying beaded lace across the collarbones. The bodice beneath is densely worked, pearls and fine beading following the lace, and it comes to a gentle point at a dropped basque waist. Behind, the lace continues over the shoulders and opens into a shaped keyhole, with covered buttons running the length of the back to the waist. From there the skirt lifts away in layers of soft tulle, full and unstructured, settling into a long train. It is a formal gown in the traditional sense, made for a church aisle and a long walk.
